Lisa Taylor Keep baby predators in your garden!

This is a public service announcement on behalf of the good bugs in your garden. If you have a lot of brush, dead leaves, or old dead weeds in your garden (even Bermuda grass), you also likely have a lot of baby jumping spiders on the way. This is the time of year that most jumping spiders are la… Continue

Arin Carlson Oleanders = can I compost?

Tons of information out their on this plant, many say "do not compost"

I also ran across some UC Davis studies that suggest you can..........?

Considering I am a "newbie" in a sense (container wise), does anyone have any feed back on this topic?

I have five of these (oleanders), and recently I clipped out a bunch of their dead branches (no green leaves) and was curious to know if I should even dare put them in my barrel? Not to mention, I would like to clean them up..… Continue

Arin Carlson Looking for unwanted items and introduction, Hello to All!

Hi, Everyone,

I'm Arin and I am a new member. I live in Tempe and I joined because I am getting my native soiled backyard ready for the fall season. About 4 months ago we moved into our new home and we have worked hard to get
our yard free of all the debris of being vacant and not tended to for at least 10years.

With that being said, we are ready to start digging, or I am, since I am a stay at home mama, in a sense. I am a medical assist

Jan LeCates GREEN CASITAS-- ONE DAY ASSEMBLE AND READY FOR MOVE-IN

Wow, there are just tons of alternative building options out there. We've already ruled out a storage container common house--too costly for a small ecovillage and are studying silo houses. Great article on them in Mother Earth News this month. For those of you who expressed an interest in the straw bale building classes, we are still in progress on that one--not enough participants currently.

In the meantime for those of you who aren't into building

Bob Friend Tobacco Plants

Hi everybody. I've recently recieved some tobacco plants of assorted varieties and unlabeled. I know they are smoking tabacco and organic. I have them in one gallon pots, they require the same garden conditions you would give tomato plants. If anyone is interested, they are $6 each. This is not something that I normally have but I know curing info is available online. At least you will know they don't have funky stuff sprayed on them like commercial tobacco. My number is 480 - 239 - 1943. Thanks… Continue

Ericka Cero Wood Our Cistern Runneth Over

After Ryan took the Phoenix Permaculture Guild's Spring 2008 Permaculture Design Course, he focused on the rainwater/greywater harvesting potential that every home has. He set about making berms and mulch basins for our backyard “orchard” with thoughts of some day having gutters installed, and a cistern.

When Tucson’s Watershed Management Group partnered up with Arizona Homegr

Nick Labor with a Neighbor

The front of his white and blue T-shirt had the Watershed Management Group' s(WMG) logo on it and in a font that looked like it had been stamped diagonally across read the words "CO-OP". When he turned around to grab a pick axe, other wise known as an Arizona Shovel, the back of the shirt said "I do my labor with my neighbor!".

-This catchy little phrase does more than just rhyme. It tells of an opportunity for community, a way to reach an otherwise high costing goal. A chance to not o

Scott Kronabetter My Introductory Blog

Hello to all of my fellow group members. Let me start by saying that I am thrilled to be a part of this organization. With that said please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Scott Kronabetter and I have lived in Phoenix Arizona for 25 years which is exactly half my life. I moved here from the cold and chilly plains of Southern Minnesota to escape the bitter cold winters and quite frankly, the boredom of the farm country I was born and raised in. While I did manage to leave the farm, I am… Continue

Jan LeCates CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN GREEN ECOVILLAGE

Wave bye-bye to the bank and own your own small healthy house for $11,000 or less!

An ecovillage is forming in the foothills of the San Tan Mountains just outside of the town of Queen Creek.

You can build a small strawbale house for $35 a square foot or a small container house for $10 a square foot.

We'll build the common house in this cohousing project which consists of living room, kitchen, office space, laundry and whatever else the group decides.

Nayeema Eusuf Eggplants

Eggplants have started trickling in - 6/7 Ichibans a week

I did a little experiment with the starts (from A&P Nursery) by transplanting two eggplant seedlings in a regular bed and adding compost later, and transplanting two seedlings from same pack directly on a +/-8" compost heap. The compost heap material was mostly grass cuttings and kitchen scrap, first half broken down in my compost pile and then transported to a bed to 'age' in place in mid-March.

David Parkin Pumpkin throw-down 2010 is ON!

Anyone interested in a pumpkin growing contest? I’ve challenged a cousin of mine to see who can grow a bigger pumpkin. Of course there is a lot of trash talk going back and fourth so it’s a bit of a hoot.

Terri Larsen 48 Hours to Stop Monsanto GMO Alfalfa!

Courtesy of Food Democracy Now!

Once again, the organic industry is under assault. As we alerted you earlier this year, Monsanto is eager to resume the marketing and sale of their Roundup Ready™ alfalfa.

Fortunately, the possibility that Monsanto’s Roundup Ready™ alfalfa may be deregulated by the USDA has caught the attention of two leading members of Congress: Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman Peter DeFazio. We are joining with our partners at Center for Food Safety in… Continue
