Reduce Your Taxes and Help Us Grow!

Tell the State of AZ that you want YOUR taxes to support sustainable solutions for YOUR community!*

Here's How: As a program of our parent non-profit, Resources for Health, a donation to AZ Homegrown Solutions qualifies to be claimed as a credit against the amount you owe in AZ taxes. You can designate that up to $400 (for joint filers, or $200 per individual) go directly to AZHS. A tax credit reduces your final tax liability. So, you have the chance to empower AZHS with money you would otherwise pay in taxes! Cool, huh?
  • Click here for a list of qualifying organizations. (Resources for Health is on p. 17)
  • Here are the FAQs on how to claim the credit.

Manifesting Destiny (self-sustainability::community sustainability)

Successful people do not let others determine the quality of their lives. Now, certainly and obviously, there are millions of people around the world who do not get to choose their destiny. I am not speaking for anyone other than right here in the good ol' US of A. If you want more, be more. If you want nothing, do nothing. Very simple equation.We need to define what success means to us- is it financial wealth, a loving and supportive family, spiritual enlightenment, some combination of the abov… Continue

A Most Unusual Garden

Some of the strangest gardening I’ve done to date – planting plastic carrots in a plywood ground. Huh?

This past week, AZHS has been preparing a garden exhibit at the Arizona Science Center in the “Green Room Gallery,” opening November 7th.

The Phoenix Chapter of the Arizona Green Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Science Center to create the Gallery. According to their website, “the Green Room theme… Continue

Aquaponics experiment

Aquaponics is two connecting systems that work together, fish production and organic hydroponic gardening. The fish waste feeds the plants and the plants filter the fish water. I first saw this type of system here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oEdmB1ELBE

The aquaponics system going into my front yard, as I am currently envisioning it, will consist of an 7' x 7' 320 gallon converted jacuzzi for Tilapia or other food fish raising and two… Continue

Casting About (A Hadley Farmship update)

For twenty five years I stacked up concrete blocks. Sometimes I was the contractor, sometimes I ran a crew, and sometimes I just used my tools. However I was doing it, one thing never changed, there was always more to stack, and we could never stack them fast enough. Oh was I good at it. God made me to lay block. I am tall, strong, and I have great pain and endurance tolerance. My strong primary schooling helped me with the math needed to calculate material quantities and lay-outs. My associates… Continue

French Drain Fun

Maximizing water use and retention is a priority for us desert-dwellers. The latest step on my training was on October 25, 2009 at Nick's home (http://www.azhomegrownsolutions.org/profile/Nick) where I gained first-hand knowledge on how to install a French drain. The history and technical details and considerations of such a project may be viewed here:
